Homeschooling in Hawaii: the paperwork, exactly

What Hawaii law requires when you teach your child at home — the filings, the deadlines, the records — and what it does not require, in writing.

Hawaii — Recurring filing calendar

Notice: Notice of intent (Form 4140 or letter) to the principal of the local public school before beginning homeschooling.

Ongoing duties: Standardized testing in grades 3, 5, 8, and 10, plus an annual progress report submitted to the principal.

Withdrawal from public school: no codified withdrawal procedure — a dated written notice to the school is the practice, and it creates your paper record.
