Homeschooling in New Mexico: the paperwork, exactly

What New Mexico law requires when you teach your child at home — the filings, the deadlines, the records — and what it does not require, in writing.

New Mexico — One annual filing

Notice: Notify NMPED within 30 days of establishing a home school; renew the notice annually (by August 1).

Ongoing duties: Keep immunization records or a waiver; the instructor must hold a high school diploma or GED; no state testing required.

Withdrawal from public school: no codified withdrawal procedure — a dated written notice to the school is the practice, and it creates your paper record.
