Homeschooling in Pennsylvania: the paperwork, exactly

What Pennsylvania law requires when you teach your child at home — the filings, the deadlines, the records — and what it does not require, in writing.

Pennsylvania — Recurring filing calendar

Notice: File a notarized affidavit or unsworn declaration with the district superintendent before starting, and annually by August 1.

Ongoing duties: Maintain a portfolio with a reading-materials log and work samples; standardized tests in grades 3, 5 and 8; annual written evaluation by a qualified evaluator, submitted by June 30.

Withdrawal from public school: no codified withdrawal procedure — a dated written notice to the school is the practice, and it creates your paper record.
