Homeschooling in Virginia: the paperwork, exactly

What Virginia law requires when you teach your child at home — the filings, the deadlines, the records — and what it does not require, in writing.

Virginia — Recurring filing calendar

Notice: Parent notifies division superintendent annually by August 15, with subject list and qualification evidence.

Ongoing duties: Evidence of progress due by August 1 each year: standardized test at/above 4th stanine, or an evaluation/assessment showing adequate progress.

Withdrawal from public school: no codified withdrawal procedure — a dated written notice to the school is the practice, and it creates your paper record.
