Homeschooling in Washington: the paperwork, exactly

What Washington law requires when you teach your child at home — the filings, the deadlines, the records — and what it does not require, in writing.

Washington — One annual filing

Notice: Parent files annual declaration of intent with district superintendent by September 15 (or within 2 weeks of a term start).

Ongoing duties: Annual standardized test approved by State Board, or assessment by a certificated teacher; results retained by parent, not filed.

Withdrawal from public school: no codified withdrawal procedure — a dated written notice to the school is the practice, and it creates your paper record.
